Brill se refiere en este discurso, pronunciado el 6 de mayo de 1931, a las aportaciones hechas por Freud a la psiquiatría, diciendo que su intelecto gigantesco sólo podía concebir lo anormal como una exageración o deformación de lo normal. Borró la línea de demarcación entre lo anormal y lo normal, probándonos que la ciencia de la psiquiatría no se refiere meramente a una descripción de estados particulares de la mente.
