Arabescos y grotescos

El origen de los grotescos fueron las ornamentaciones encontradas en las grutas (“grotta”) de los baños de Tito o en la Domus Aurea de Nerón en Roma. Son los grotescos (fig. 1, que representa solamente la mitad derecha del grotesco) adornos fantásticos, con figuras humanas o de animales, rodeados de ramajes encorvados.
