Este trabajo es el resultado del tercer congreso sobre problemas infantiles en Nueva York. Se divide en tres partes:

1) Discusión general sobre el tema de las ansiedades de las madres con respecto a sus hijos. 2) Situación psicológica de la madre y del recién nacido. 3) Reacciones emocionales de los niños frente a la hospitalización y a las operaciones.

El enfoque es completamente clínico. Es de utilidad para investigadores en ideas recientes sobre estos problemas clínicos así como también para aquellos interesados en las relaciones entre las especialidades de pediatría, obstetricia, cirugía y psicoanálisis.
