(The Work of the Feminine in the Intimacy of the Relationship between the Psychoanalyst and the Patient or the Discovery of the Strange Novelty of the other)

Valerie Ji-Sook Burnet

During the session, welcoming the patient into the psychoanalyst' sphere of intimacy is related to his work of the feminine, that is, to his capacity to receive, contain and wait, irrespective of his sexual gender. The uncanniness of this encounter awakens infantile curiosity about sexuality. The introjection of the qualities of the feminine sex, that is, of passivity and life masochism, requires some initial protective schields. Analyses between women do not overlook primary homosexuality, even though they require an encounter with the masculine in order to go beyond the repetition of the identical.
