La pulsion de vie dans la cure

Travailler avec les pulsions de vie ?

(Working with the Life Drives?)

Dominique Bourdin

Taking the life drives into account in psychoanalytic practice ascribes value to the cathexis of the object and of oneself, and not only psychic representations. It implies reevaluating the pleasure principle in the light of Eros and the death drive, being sensitive to the importance of drive fusion, to the movements of binding and unbinding, to the meaning of acting out, to the value of passion and to lateral transferences. It implies paying attention to potentialities and not only to deficits, recognizing and supporting the clinical phenomenon of dependency, as well as work on separations. While never underestimating the negative and destructivity, it implies recognizing the creativity of primary defences and a conception of being characterized by love, for it is love that makes us live.
