Pulsion de vie : lier coûte que coûte, investir sans fin, espérer toujours, aimer encore…

(Life Drive : Form Links at Whatever Cost, Invest Endlessly, Always Hope, Love Again and Again)

Guy Lavallée

The life drive is an elaboration of the excitation of life. As such, it is expressed both by a constant hallucinatory and positive activity of linking, an affect of hope, significant capacities for investment and, above all, a loving psychic movement that deploys itself to the ultimate limits. Manic defences accompany Eros in its struggle against the entropic risk the collapse of the ego. Destructivity originates first and foremost in the ego-defences misleading Eros by utilizing in particular mastery (heterodestructive) and envy (self- and heterodestructive).
