The main topic in the Danish Psychoanalytic Society in 1988 has been the 11th Nordic Psychoanalytic Congress, which was held in Copenhagen, 11-14 August 1988 at Schæffergården. The theme of the congress was: Primitive and Advanced Defence Mechanisms.

The congress began with a reception at the City Hall of Copenhagen, where the participants were welcomed by the mayor, Jørgen Frederiksen.
