Dear friend,

What are you doing? Why haven't I heard anything from you? I only want to inform you that Martin is with us on a ten-day leave, is very well and cheerful, and Ernst is presently at a secure spot above Trieste with an air defense detachment. He is living in a furnished house, is a cadet, and at least has the little silver bravery [medal].

I haven't overcome my grumpiness, have more to do, do it without satisfaction, and am writing up the lectures which I am giving (before an audience of 100) in sequence, but the long duration of the war wears one down, and the eternal victories in the midst of increasing deprivation makes one apprehensive as to whether the perfidious English calculation1 might not be right after all.

Scientifically, nothing new. Lou sent a nice paper, “Anal and Sexual,” for Imago, Pfister and Abraham are stirring again.

Oli's wedding is imminent, but is indeterminate on account of her father's imminent demise.

I am curious as to how your work and affairs will develop further.

Kind regards,

Freud
