Dear friend,

I would like to report to you authentically about Sachs. He still looks wretched, as if he were wearing the mark on his forehead.1 The experts here, Pineles in particular, didn't acknowledge the emphasis that Lévy had placed on syphilis, as was also my—layman's—inclination. So it has finally been all but decided that he should go to Davos as soon as possible, i.e., as soon as he has gone through the obligatory torments.
