Sándor Ferenczi

Budapest, December 26, 1921

Dear Professor,

As I already had you informed by way of Rank, I gratefully accept your kind invitation and will arrive there on January 5, probably toward evening. I will let you know more precisely about the hour by telegram.

The task which has been set for me (metapsychology)1 is not easy; I will see how I do with it.

I will save up all communications for the personal talk, and greet you, also in the name of my wife, on the occasion of the New Year.

Yours,

Ferenczi

Notes to "Letter from Sándor Ferenczi to Sigmund Freud, December 26, 1921"

1 Ferenczi's lecture in Vienna on “Freud's Metapsychology” (see Rank's Rundbrief of December 11, 1921, Butler Library) was published in Hungarian in Gyogyászat 25 (1922): 360-363. Ferenczi also gave a second lecture on “pathoneuroses” (Ferenczi's Rundbrief of January 12, 1922, Butler Library; see Ferenczi 1917, 195) and returned to Budapest between January 8 and 11, 1922 (Freud and Ferenczi to Andreas-Salomé, January 8, 1922, Library of Congress; Rank's Rundbrief of January 11, 1922, Butler Library).
