Sándor Ferenczi

Budapest, July 16, 1922

Dear Professor,

Since the beginning of June I have set the work machine at half-steam. We are living in an (unfortunately, overfilled) boardinghouse in the “cool valley,” where I work only six hours a day, and that in good air, as well, so that I can set out on the trip to Tirol in an already strengthened condition. In the evenings I read old manuscripts—I do intend, once and for all, to dispose of my “Theory of Genitality.” It is now exactly nine years that it has been ripening; so I am literally following the rule of the ars poëtica.1 After Seefeld we are also going to Baden-Baden, to Groddeck's. One of my wife's sisters (from Canada) and Elma (who is divorcing her husband, after all) will also be there. Only then comes the time of the Congress, where the Hungarians seem to want to unfold a very lively activity. I scarcely need to tell you this time how I look forward to seeing you and Fräulein Anna (this time already as a member!)2 again. Let us hope that Gastein also does its due this year; and only after Berchtesgaden will you accompany my thoughts good and proper.
