Sándor Ferenczi

Budapest, January 20, 1924

Dear Professor,

I am already very eager to hear something about how you are since the resumption of your activity. If it won't cost you much effort, I ask you for a brief bulletin.

Since we didn't see each other anymore after the Committee meeting, I was not in a position to ask you about your personal impression of my lecture.1 Your facetious remark in which you apostrophized Rank as a “co-conspirator” comes to my mind again and again, however, and I have the—perhaps hypochondriacal—idea that you are not in agreement with everything. That naturally contradicts your frequently expressed assent—and in spite of this, I would like to ask you to reassure, that is to say, enlighten me in this regard.

My practice has increased since the middle of January: I have an American [female] patient and an English [female] colleague in treatment, that is to say, training. The difficulties with language are not as great as I thought.

We intend shortly to come out of our shell and to hold five to six lay lectures in the “physicians' casino.”
