Sigmund Freud

Vienna, April 3, 1924
IX., Berggasse 19

Dear friend,

I can only respond to your letter of today1 [by saying] that my self-preservative drive has won the upper hand. It has been decided that I will not go to Salzburg at Easter, but again to the Kurhaus Semmering, where I am now spending Saturday and Sunday.

The motive of consideration for my person, which you mention, comes pretty late. But I don't want to leave you with the impression that I am avoiding the Congress and my friends on account of the embarrassing affairs that are now floating around; they create for me only a secondary gain from illness. The main thing remains my tormented and weakened condition.

We are thinking of leaving Vienna on the Thursday of Holy Week (17th). I am writing to Eitingon that he has to come to Vienna beforehand if he wants to speak with me.

With kind regards to you and Frau Gisela.

Yours,

Freud
