Sándor Ferenczi

Budapest, Baden-Baden,
August 23-25

Dear Professor,

Pfister has replied with a refusal; evidently he places more value on his psychoanalytic scribbling [Schriftstellerei] than on his aptitude for popular solicitation.—Now, I was deliberating about who should be considered in his place.—First and foremost I am thinking about our Lou Salomé, who leaves nothing to be desired in the way of reliability. I think that such a central power would even aid in securing her material future. Please ask her, and show her the letter in which I explain the purpose of the society. Second, the following names would come into consideration: Aichhoin, Stärcke, Bernfeld, Anna Freud.—Since time is pressing, I request a reply by telegram. It goes without saying that I consider your suggestion, that is to say, recommendation, as a purely confidential, unofficial communication; if warranted, cable me a different name.
