Sigmund Freud

Dear friend,

Regret very much that so many difficulties are cropping up now out of our relationship. Everything must be paid and atoned for, that is my newest insight, even when no civil guilt is present. In the case of Wittels, I can easily give you information, but advise with difficulty. Wittels himself is, despite his faults, a respectable and serious person; the society has good intentions and will perhaps have an effect on reducing the gulf between analysis and medicine. The friendly attitude already proceeds from the offer to let you speak alone.

I don't know if it serves a purpose to avoid every reaction—perhaps the opposite.
