Sigmund Freud

Berchtesgaden,
September 12, 1929

Dear friend,

Schneewinkel has remained beautiful up to the end; the stay was disrupted only by visitors1 and prosthesis, and the loss of our dear Lun2 cast a shadow on it. Now I am going with Anna to Berlin-Tegel on Saturday evening.

In the Association, a reduction of tension seems to have set in after the Congress; I haven't heard anything more. But I wish both of you a nice October, and soon.

Cordially,

Freud

Notes to "Letter from Sigmund Freud to Sándor Ferenczi, September 12, 1929"

1 Among the visitors were Marie Bonaparte and her daughter Eugénie, Max and Ernst Halberstadt, and the de Forests with daughter Judy (see letter 1186, n. 1). In Schneewinkel, Freud wrote Civilization and Its Discontents (1930a). The house, which Freud loved so much, was later bought by Hermann Göring.

2 Freud's chow Lun (or Lün), a gift from Dorothy Burlingham, was supposed to have been brought from Vienna to Berchtesgaden by Eva Rosenfeld, but she got loose at the Salzburg train station and was found several days later, run over on the tracks.
