Sigmund Freud

Vienna, February 22, 1931
IX., Berggasse 19

Dear friend,

This evening, as soon as Anna returns, I will authorize you to get in touch with Nunberg. But I think I can predict that he will refuse. He is expecting his wife (Margarethe Rie) to deliver any day now, in anxious suspense, after last year's pregnancy ended so badly, and he won't want to leave mother and child so soon. Besides that, he is being made full use of in Vienna, mostly occupied with foreigners, and is suffering from chronic gall bladder ailments, which demand that he look after himself.1

Radó has, as far as I know, been requested by Brill for the institute which is to be opened in New York, and it is said that he will accept this offer.

In the next letter I will enclose Amsden's; I am still saving it for Anna.

The wound from my last operation hasn't healed yet. All these interventions were passed off to me as unavoidable, but then as unnecessary. Their consequences are filling up the next weeks with misery.

I greet you and Frau G. cordially.

Yours,

Freud
