Dear Professor Freud,

Well, here I am landed in my new country which I like very much so far.

At present I am busy trying to pass medical examinations, for I am excused from only the Primary one in spite of our Imperialistic bombast. I have been warmly welcomed by Clarke, the Professor of Psychiatry,1 who knows a little of your work and is eager to know more. He has promised me a university appointment and also one in the new psychiatry clinic, which will be open in two years and of which he will be the head.2 In the meantime I am to work at hysterical cases in his asylum.

The town is very charming. It has a Deutscher Verein, which I am joining; amongst the most active members is Kirschmann, Professor of Psychology.3 Do you happen to know him?

I am now going to ask of you a favour. A friend of mine in England has conceived the wish to translate Die Ursachen der Nervosität and asked me to introduce him to Stekel.4
