I am sending this letter and a small Christmas parcel by a Mr. Pastor, late of Oxford, now at the University of London as Lecturer. He is an intelligent and much-travelled Spaniard, who has shewn some interest in psycho-analysis, though he does not seem to have the inner need to come closer to it.
The only way to deal with a press of patients is for you to raise your fees still further. Many analysts here, for instance, even unqualified ones, get two to three guineas, and you have surely the right to ask at least five from those who can afford it.
Rickman and Strachey are probably quite right in their criticisms, though they may be sharpened by reasons to do with their analysis. The situation is this. Part 3/4 contains six articles. Two short ones, in fair English and slightly improved by myself, by the Americans Coriat and Van Teslaar.1 A long one in excellent English by Berkeley-Hill.2 Three translations.3 One of Hug-Hellmuth translated into good English by Barbara Low, who is a lecturer on English literature. One by Eisler (pregnancy phantasy) translated by a medical patient of mine, a Cambridge man, son of German parents; I must admit it was not so well translated as I had the right to expect; it was given him as a test. Stärcke's psychiatry one is done by Bryan, and here we come to the difficulties.
