Dear Friend

Don't be alarmed; after this, I promise you a long silence. This is merely a postscript to emphasize yesterday's suggestion to offer Bleuler the presidency1 in Salzburg. You will be doing me a great favor if you would pass on to him this wish of mine as a personal request. I consider it quite fitting, even more dignified, if he rather than I were to take the chair. It might even look strange if I as the outlawed knight were to preside over the private parliament which has been called in defense of my rights against king and country. On the other hand it would be an honor for me and would also create a deeper impression abroad if he [Bleuler], as the oldest and most important of my followers, were to lead the movement on my behalf.

My Viennese colleagues too would behave better under his presidency; in short, all would be plain sailing if he accepted. I hope that you agree with me and that you will use your influence with him.

I have decided not to write about anything else, so I send you my kind regards and thanks for your efforts.

Your
Freud
