American Institute for Psychoanalysis Board of Trustees

Nathan Freeman, M.D.

Two Membership and ten Board of Trustees meetings were held during the school year 1962-1963. The Membership elected Dr. Lester E. Shapiro to full membership. The Board of Trustees certified Drs. James M. Homer, Jr., Herbert M. Pcrr, Herbert Rosenthal and Martin Symonds. Our relationship with the New School was reaffirmed through the intensive efforts of Dr. William Birenbaum, Dean of the New School and Dr. Harold Kelman, Dean of the American Institute for Psychoanalysis. The Board accepted and approved their program with thanks to both of these gentlemen for their successful efforts. The New York State Education Department extended its approval of the courses of the American Institute for Psychoanalysis for another period of five years. The courses for General Practitioners proved such a huge success that the Faculty Council received approval to continue the project. The Faculty Council, under the direction of Dr. Harold Kelman, has completed plans for the expansion of these courses and has received approval for continuing funds from the National Institute for Mental Health.

The continuing success of the Karen Horney Clinic under the direction of Medical Director, Dr. Louis R. Hott and Executive Director, Mr. Herman Rikelman, necessitated an increase in the appointments of the supervisory staff. The challenge of the increased work load was successfully met with the cooperation of our doctors and the lay staff of the Clinic. Mr. Louis Shapiro, President of the Board of Directors of the Karen Horney Clinic, Inc.
