In principle, the writer of a book review is charged with the task of giving his reader, and the potential reader of the book, a flavor of the book's content, organization, style, and quality in terms of strengths and shortcomings. The book's promotion is considered to be the purvey of the publisher via advertisements and the book's dust cover. Rarely do these two purposes become inextricably joined.
