Toward a Conceptual Index of Psychoanalytic Terms: A Method to Develop a Psychoanalytic Thesaurus

George H. Klumpner, M.D. and John E. Gedo, M.D.

SUMMARY

This report describes the procedures through which we are preparing an index to Freud's writings that will be based upon his concepts and the interrelationships among them. We believe this study also demonstrates the feasibility of subsequently preparing a comprehensive conceptual index for the psychoanalytic literature in general. At the same time, a thesaurus of psychoanalytic terms can be produced as a guide for the indexers of psychoanalytic books and periodicals.
