Perverse Development in a Young Boy

Melvin A. Scharfman, M.D.

SUMMARY

I have presented details from the analysis of a preadolescent boy who initially presented with obsessional neurotic symptoms. In the course of the analysis, material developed indicating that there were also fetishistic, transvestite, and masochistic patterns of behavior, with indications of borderline functioning. I have attempted to elucidate the overdetermination of this pattern of functioning for the purpose of seeing how it would correlate with the analytic literature and to consider some additional aspects of fetishistic phenomena.
