Review by:
Siobhan O'Connor

The theme of this book is evident both in its content and in the expertise of its fourteen contributors. Its focus is on Jacqueline Amati Mehler's important contribution to psychoanalysis in the realm of language and symbolization. A paper cited in the book, “The Babel of the Unconscious(Mehler, Argentieri, and Canestri 1990), is an example of her work with two of the editors, Jorge Canestri and Simona Argentieri. Both of them, and the third editor, Giovanna Ambrosio, are prominent members of the Italian Psychoanalytic Association. All are known for their contributions to psychoanalysis. The editors' aim, paying tribute to Amati Mehler, demonstrates their appreciation of her devotion to the field of psychoanalysis, which reaches beyond her significant publications. She is known for the importance of her work in the Italian Psychoanalytic Association, the European Psychoanalytic Federation, and the IPA.
