Curare la Coppia — Processi terapeutici e fattori mutativi, by Fabio Monguzzi, Milan, F. Angeli, 2010.

Review by:
Barbara Bianchini

This book, published in Italian, deals with the process of couple therapy. The author's major contribution is a theoretical and methodological attempt to integrate recent findings from infant research, attachment theories, neurosciences, and mentalisation studies, acknowledging the significant changes that characterise the contemporary psychoanalytic scene.

Monguzzi begins by describing the therapeutic process from initial sessions to conclusion along a time axis that embraces three work phases, followed by descriptions of the most frequent phenomena, and subsequently in relation to possible levels of change. The book also addresses supervision of couple psychotherapy and the interesting, if difficult, theme of ethics and responsibilities involved in therapy.

In addition to offering an opportunity for discussion and reflection on the methodology of conjoint treatment, the volume also provides useful technical advice on the conduct of the therapeutic process.
