Inauguration of 'Broomhills', the New Headquarters of the International Psychoanalytical Association

On Saturday, 22 March 1986, the new headquarters of the IPA was formally opened. Although the premises were purchased by the IPA on 1 October 1984, renovations and rebuilding were not completed until November 1985, and the offices were occupied as from 26 November 1985. The gathering together of Officers and some Committees of the IPA in England, for the Fifth IPA Symposium held in Taunton in March, was seen as an appropriate opportunity for the inauguration of the new premises, which could then be attended also by some members of the British Society who had been very much involved in the past in the work of the IPA, together with people who had assisted the IPA in its administrative work during the years this had been undertaken in the United Kingdom.

After small groups of members had had an opportunity to tour the house, and to see the small exhibition of photographs showing the previous offices in Croftdown Road and the renovation of the new premises throughout the previous months, everyone gathered in the Founders' (conference) room.

Dr Robert S. Wallerstein, President of the IPA, welcomed everyone present and then did something he pointed out was totally unnecessary for him to do: introduced Dr Adam Limentani, immediate Past President, under whose Administration the new premises had been acquired and renovated.

Dr Limentani: This is a very happy occasion for us, and I am very happy indeed to have the opportunity to say a few words, as Chairman of the House Management Committee.
