A review of the work of Didier Anzieu as a whole reveals a seeming contradiction associated with the characteristic bipolarity of its contrasting elements. This oscillatory movement between poles constitutes a dialectic that is always organised around pairs of opposing concepts and as such resembles the Freudian system.
On the one hand, the reader is struck by the range and diversity of the fields explored, the plurality of methods by which they are investigated, the diversity of the topics and concepts examined, put forward for reflection as well as discussion, or created, developed, elaborated and expanded upon. On the other hand, the guiding strands are seen to exhibit a continuity: methods and questions recur; older works are republished, amended and updated; and earlier contributions are drawn upon for the purpose of transition to, and the opening up of, new thoughts and vistas.
These two aspects in fact turn out not to be mutually exclusive, because, while range and diversity are manifest qualities of the oeuvre, in-depth study of the various texts reveals a number of focal points that constitute a solid and permanent foundation.
