Chairman: Dr. Rafael Paz

Presenters: Dr. Luis Rodríguez de la Sierra, Dr.ssa. Marta Badoni and Mme Florence Marie Guignard

Reporter: Fabio Eslava Cerón

The Chairman, Dr Rafael Paz, training analyst in the Argentine Psychoanalytic Society, began by presenting Dr Luis Rodriguez de la Sierra, training and child analyst in the British Psychoanalytical Society, and his paper entitled ‘From the Cradle to the Couch: The Role of Pleasure and Intimacy in Psychic and Physical Development’.

Dr Rodríguez de la Sierra began by announcing that he would speak in Spanish, one of the official languages of the IPA, as a courtesy gesture, due to the fact that the meeting was taking place in Argentina, but showed his paper in English on a screen.

After paying a warm tribute to the memory of his recently deceased mentor, teacher and friend, Professor Ricardo Horacio Etchegoyen, Dr Rodriguez de la Sierra moved elegantly through the topic making beautiful references to Spanish literature. He began with the Freudian theoretical basis of his work.
