Natural and constructed instincts

Under the assumption that the advancement of psychoanalysis is not through the introduction of cognitive or neuro scientific concepts into its metapsychology but to modify the existing theoretical constructs according to new scientific discoveries a modified model of psychic apparatus is proposed. For this purpose the constructs of instincts, psychic apparatus, repressed and unrepressed unconscious are redefined in base to new definitions of needs, wishes and desires. Accordingly the existence of natural and constructed instincts is defined as constituents of parallel psychic apparatus. A clinical vignette is presented and discussed in order to illustrate this proposal.
