« O Mother be patient ». The origin of a terrorist’s death wishes and his quest for martyrdom.

Patricia Cotti

Working from Tweets sent by Abdallah E H , the 29 year old Egyptian who attacked soldiers at the Paris Louvre (February 3, 2017), we go beyond his Islamist rhetoric, consisting of Hadiths and Sura discussing murder and promising Paradise to Jihadis, bringing to light his psychic dynamic and the event that triggered his act of terrorism. We analyse Abdallah's relationship to his God and internal maternal object and hypothesize a Pieta fantasy and a fantasy of infanticide held by some suicide terrorists, notably jihadist martyrs. We evaluate this hypothesis in light of Stein's 2009 thesis concerning an "homoerotic vertical desire" of the terrorist for a father-God.
