Elaine G. Caruth

But unlike Alice, it seems to me

You entered with perspicacity

And with that turning inward stare

You penetrated to a deeper layer.

And mirroring, as you can see,

Involves much more than empathy.

And logic leads to much hilarity

Since opposites are a non-polarity.

And cause and effect can no longer be

In a world ruled now by indeterminacy.

When a and not-a are the same

And Aristotle comes to shame,

The moebius and the tesseract

Create new worlds with different facts.

And two and two make four, but then

That's only when the base is ten.

And fears are calmed by the insecure

And doubts no longer are quite pure.

For fear and calm become the same

And pleasure only calls forth pain.

And when the future is the past

Who knows how long the world will last.

But does it matter, since you see

Both time and space are part of thee.
