Tip: To use OneNote for note taking…

PEP-Web Tip of the Day

You can use Microsoft OneNote to take notes on PEP-Web. OneNote has some very nice and flexible note taking capabilities.

You can take free form notes, you can copy fragments using the clipboard and paste to One Note, and Print to OneNote using the Print to One Note printer driver. Capture from PEP-Web is somewhat limited.

For the complete list of tips, see PEP-Web Tips on the PEP-Web support page.

Psychoanalytic Supervision—An Overview

O. H.D. Blomfield

SUMMARY

The concept of psychoanalytic education I am putting forward in this paper relates centrally to the candidate's capacity for negative capability. Just

as with, e.g. musical capacity it is not really something that can be taught. The evidence of some potential can be sought in applicants and the training scheme itself designed to protect and foster it.

I have tried to sketch a view of the supervisory relationship, the structures within which it operates and some of the difficulties involved as I see them. There are essential ambiguities in the position of the student analyst in the training scheme, in the way education may be approached, in the nature of the psychoanalytic process itself and in the relationship between the supervisor and the student analyst. The acknowledgement of these ambiguities as sources for creative exploration is in the tradition of psychoanalytic thought and I have stressed their importance to the work of supervision.
