These two dedicated practitioners of child analysis were exceptionally gifted with the ability to inspire creative commitment. Throughout the past forty years or so they have had a pre-eminent influence upon Kleinian and post-Kleinian developments in child analysis and psychotherapy. Esther Bick and Martha Harris differed greatly in their backgrounds, personalities and individual teaching styles. Yet they worked closely together with affectionate mutual regard, sharing their convictions and their zeal for the psychoanalytically orientated study of infants and young children.
