In December 2004 at the Center for Modern Psychoanalytic Studies' conference “Freud and Modern Psychoanalysis,” André Green examined the development of Freud's ideas regarding discharge and representation and introduced the concept of “judgment of action” to designate the ability to distinguish between well-grounded and impulsive actions. What follows is a summary of his presentation.
