A Case of Catatonic Schizophrenia and the Absence of Dreams. A Brief Reflection on Dreams and Psychosis

The Chapter's monthly activities continue as programmed. At the last three meetings in 2005 we had theoretical discussions relating to a clinical presentation of a patient who was diagnosed as suffering from chronic catatonic schizophrenia and who reported an absence of dreams during his hospital analytic treatment. Our intention was to discuss this case taking into account the theme of the last International Conference held in Rio de Janeiro, in July 2005, which was attended by one of the authors of this report.

We briefly described the case of G, a 27-year-old patient, hospitalized for the third time. On the last occasion, he was admitted to a unit, where Dr. Cohen worked, that specialized in the treatment of schizophrenic patients.
