The Polish Neuro-Psychoanalysis Study Group

Edited by:
Iréne Matthis

Slawomir Murawiec

Educational seminars on neuropsychoanalysis started in October 2005. The group has been meeting regularly once a month, exploring many topics connected with neurobiology and psychoanalysis: aspects on psychosis, treatment of depression, neuroplasticity, scientific research in psychoanalysis, and the basic assumptions of neuropsychoanalysis. We have invited one lecturer from outside the group, Prof. Malgorzata Kossut, a well-known researcher on neuroplasticity, from the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology. The other lecturers were members of the seminar group.

Material from the previous Neuro-Psychoanalysis Congress in Rio de Janeiro in 2005 has been presented, and the report was published in a psychological magazine for the general public (Charaktery, Vol. 11 (2005, No. 106): 40-41) as well as in the most prominent journal for psychiatrist in Poland (Psychiatria Polska, Vol. 39 (2005): 1243-1245). A longer version of the report was also published as a separate newsletter by a big Polish pharmaceutical company and distributed to almost all psychiatrist in Poland (Psychiatric Scientific Service, 10 January, 2006). Apaper on neuropsychoanalysis and the Congress in Rio was also published in the newsletter of the biggest private psychological high school in Poland.

Research on the treatment of psychosis based on Shitij Kapur's theory (as presented in an earlier report in this bulletin) has been continuing, and some papers are in press. Earlier papers, published in Polish, will now be translated into English and published at the invitation of the editor of Archives of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy. Finally, a paper on neuropsychoanalysis by Prof. Dov Aleksandrowicz has been published in the psychiatric news journal, Wiadomosci Psychiatryczne, Vol. 2 (2006).

The Internet Web page of the Polish group (www.neuro-psa. org.pl) has been available since July 2006.
