The author emphasizes the importance of psychological mechanisms in the diagnosis of psychosomatic disorders. In a large number of cases a general physician, properly trained through extensive group discussions, is in a better position to enlist the patient's coöperation in understanding himself psychologically than the specialist. Brief clinical examples are presented.
