Lowell Rubin

Zinkin, a Jungian analyst, discusses the conflict between the "scientific" psychoanalytic and the "humanistic" points of view. Jung's resolution was the concept of individuation, a circular interactional process rather than a linear one as in the medical model. He cites the central importance of the reciprocal interchange between mother and child which is necessary to establish the "humanity" of the individual.
