Theories of adolescent suicide are reviewed. The author suggests that a specific combination of regressive symbiotic yearning and advanced cognitive capacity creates suicidal "liability." The "standard" view (regression to the stage of primary narcissistic identification and self-murder) is discussed and found to be inadequate.
