Referring to the "Katharina" case published in Studies on Hysteria, Argelander sketches the development of the psychoanalytic technique of the interview. While the task was at first chiefly to obtain objective information from the patient, the subjective meaning of the facts obtained was soon recognized as relevant as well. Finally, the unconscious significance of those facts and of their place in subjective experience was discovered.
