Will Woldenberg

We drove it with windows down, for

there was hardly a wind to blow

against forest green Tulane tees.

Abita bottles felt cold, wet,

right, under flame blue skies. Slowly,

like a death wish in Pomplona,

it lazed towards Gainseville. A weekend

of girls in flowered sundresses,

keg beer, and the UF ball game,

seized our assured minds like TV;

eyes popped forward, head left behind.

Only three hundred miles left

until it was there. Traffic jams

became conversation starters

and gas stops were a shopping trip

for Trucker Hats and eighteen packs.
