Lewis Aron: In Memorium

After Lew, How? (After Yannis Ritsos)

Spyros Orfanos, PhD, ABPP

Last night, my once compliant sleep gave me a scare.

No longer touched by blood and light.

A time of disappearing siblings.

So many guitar picks left behind at the office.

The fish nets are tangled.

What is the use of poetry in a mean-spirited time?

I don’t know why - he says – but I keep having

this dream:

The fish market is not selling fish but parrots

in cages - strange looking parrots, of all different colors.

One of them perched on my left like Mitsis, its beak

on my ear and said, “Dance the Zeimbekiko.”

Today, I must buy an umbrella.

Maybe I will launch paper boats.

Perhaps a thread of music will find its way

from the other side.
