I maintain that the proponents of the relational school of psychoanalysis underestimate the role of interpersonal relations in Freud's theory and in contemporary Freudian theory, thereby overestimating the nature of their contribution to psychoanalytic theory. This polarization only contributes to the fragmentation in psychoanalytic theory today.
