The original 1985 edition of my biography of Helene Deutsch was designed to appear as an impartial study. In fact, a host of subjective factors, including a history of long personal friendship, underlay the work. The 1992 introduction to the second edition attempted to try to readress the matter, which is continued with this further essay.
