Some thoughts on Erotic Transference

Erotic transference is a complex and thorny clinical entity. A full understanding of it has not yet been reached; nor has a great deal been written about it despite its not uncommon occurrence in the psychotherapeutic encounter. This paper discusses the possible functions and determinants embodied in what is overtly expressed as erotic transference.

The cases of two patients who developed marked erotised transferences during psychotherapeutic treatment are presented to illustrate some of the different psychodynamics and specific features which underlie erotic transference.
