This monograph is one of “The Behavior Research Fund Publications “from the Institute for Juvenile Research in Chicago. It presents three studies dealing with diverse aspects of the problem of motivation in behavior, utilizing different methods suited to careful experimental control and carried out on different material.

The genetic aspects of temperamental differences, and the possibility of modification by training, in white rats has been studied by Dr. Stone.
