Psicologia. By Honorio Delgado and Mariano Iberico. Lima, Peru: Imprenta Hospital Victor Larco-Herrera, 1933. Pp. viii- + 284.

This is a small textbook covering the field of general psychology, composed of short concise chapters. The presentation begins with comments, on the relationship between philosophy and psychology, the various objectives of psychology and definitive remarks on the scope and limitations of this science. There are then several chapters on psychological methods, including experimental and introspectional procedures, on physiological psychology and functions of the nervous system, on cerebral localization theories and on reflexology.

The authors have interests in psychoanalytic and allied fields, as they devote a fair amount of their limited space to the history and development of psychoanalysis, as well as to extra-conscious experiences, hypnosis, instinctive impulses, and the psychology of suggestion. They define and explain, according to modern concepts, the formation of the personality, character development, and the psychology of conduct.

The usual psychological topics, including instinct, habit, language and symbols, attention, will, the affective life, emotional complexes, passions, and the intellectual functions of perception, memory, abstractions, rationalization, imagination, etc., are briefly discussed. Psychopathological states such as illusions, hallucinations, the various amnesias, and abnormal affective responses are briefly described. The final chapter is on social psychology and culture. Contributing to the value of the book, as a general orientation help in psychology, is the feature of listing the leading appropriate bibliographic references at the beginning of each chapter.
