Gesell, Arnold Thompson, Helen Amatruda, Catherine Strunk. The Psychology of Early Growth Including Norms of Infant Behavior and Method of Genetic Analysis. New York: The Macmillan Co.

About twenty years ago the results of the Yale studies of infancy were published by Macmillan under title of The Mental Growth of the Preschool Child: a Psychological Outline of Normal Development from Birth to the Sixth Year, including a System of Developmental Diagnosis. The present very valuable work is at once a continuation and elaboration of the material of this first study, which went out of print after several reprintings, and is based on ten years’ collaborative research in the Yale Clinic of Child Development. Giving mainly the biometric aspects of the normative investigation, it forms the third part of a whole study which includes previously published works entitled An Atlas of Infant Behavior, dealing with the forms and early growth of early behavior patterns, and Infant Behavior, its Genesis and Growth.

In the work at hand special care is taken to develop systematic and objective methods in this field which may effect a workable bridge between the medical and biological sciences; utilizing in regard to the latter correlations between processes of growth and those presently studied in experimental embryology. There are three parts: Methods and Procedure; Norms of Infant Growth; and Genetic Analysis.
