Nolan D. C. Lewis and Carney Landis

Jacob Shatzky, Ph.D. (1892-1956) was the librarian of the New York State Psychiatric Institute Library from January 21st, 1930 until his death, June 13th, 1956. Under his guidance this library grew from 7,885 volumes to more than 25,000 volumes plus over 20,000 dissertations and reprints. Dr. Shatzky acquired for the library over this period an extraordinary collection of rare books dealing with the history of psychiatry, with animal magnetism, mesmerism and hypnotism, and with witchcraft. In all Dr. Shatzky made this the most complete psychiatric library in the world.
